I can find it difficult to focus.
Having a creative brain can often result in lots of scattered thoughts and ideas whirring around your brain.
They need to spill out, preferably written down on paper (I am old school), to try and understand, organise, and structure said thoughts into clear, coherent points and actions.
I recently realised that even though I have worked as a freelancer for nearly 18 months (mental), I have never determined and clarified what I offer. I had an idea of who I was and what I offered at the beginning, but having worked across a range of industries as a freelancer (charity, tourism, technology, architecture, planning, property and food exporters!) offering a range of services (strategy, managing a re-brand, general marketing support, operations support and copywriting) I have realised I need to re-define what I offer.
Marketing is such an umbrella term, with so many expectations attached to it. You are expected to write, strategize, design, analyse, data-crunch, and plan as a ‘marketeer’. However, there are many different roles and specialisms that sit under marketing, and I have begun to establish what I currently offer and how I want that to evolve in the future.
To help focus my brain, I paid for a ‘Manifesting Moodboards’ online course by Hand and Palm. A complete bargain at £10, I used the course as a starting point to work out what I was currently happy with, wanted more of and less of and applied it to my business and personal life. Having a step-by-step structure that guides you through that process, allows you to ‘brain dump’ initially, then provides a clear and logical structure and staged process to help achieve those goals.
It was just what I needed to focus my brain.
Working through the course, I was able to establish:
- My target audience
- Industries, companies, and organisations I would like to work with
- Some easy wins (aka actionable tasks I could work on ASAP)
- Content ideas
This has helped me establish and determine who I am and what I offer and in turn, has led me to start the smallest re-brand in history, whilst repositioning myself and my offer!
Stay tuned over the coming weeks and months, but I am again looking to practice what I preach – ensuring my brand and messaging reflect my offer.
And if you need to focus the brain and have a spare tenner, I would definitely recommend investing in the ‘Manifesting Moodboards’ online course by Hand and Palm – worth every penny!
